Huston, who led the Corona del Mar junior varsity in batting average last season, has made the step up to varsity in a big way. Entering the Pride of the Coast tournament, Huston was flirting with a .400 average; afterward it was closer to .500. Huston raised his average from .393 to .488 while helping the Sea Kings win four games and the tournament title. He had 10 hits in 15 at-bats and drove in nine runs. He was nine for 11 in the first three games of the tournament and drove in three runs in a 11-8 victory over Katella and four in a 12-0 victory over Rancho Alamitos. But there’s more. “I think something like seven of his 10 hits were with two outs, so he’s a clutch hitter,” Corona del Mar Coach Scott Magers said.

Jim Livernois was named the most valuable player of the Anaheim Lions’ Tournament after recording a victory and two saves and leading La Quinta to the title.

Chad Peare of Trabuco Hills finished second in the discus at the Arcadia Invitational. His mark of 191 feet 11 inches was a personal best and the fourth best performance by an Orange County athlete.

Steve Wagner, a freshman, shot one-under par 71 at Chalk Mountain to be medalist at the King of the Mountain Tournament and help Santa Margarita to third place.

Tustin’s Tim Wilson had three hits, drove in three runs and scored three in the Tillers’ 10-2 victory over Fresno Bullard, then-ranked fourth in the nation by USA Today, in the Las Vegas Eldorado tournament. Wilson went nine for 13 in five tournament games.
