VIEWPOINT / LETTERS : Wooden Award Needs Some Answers
- Share via
As a graduate from Indiana University now living in Southern California, I was disappointed and embarrassed to hear that Calbert Cheaney did not show up to receive the John Wooden Award.
However, after further review, a few questions come to mind. Why would such an important and prominent award ceremony be held on a Wednesday afternoon when classes are in session? Especially since Mr. Wooden is such a strong advocate of education.
The basketball season is long enough and most players have missed many classes already. Wouldn’t it be ironic for Mr. Cheaney to miss more classes and exams so he can fly to California to pick up his award from Mr. Wooden?
Doesn’t it make more sense to hold this ceremony on a Saturday?
