COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast Wins in Softball, Ties for Conference Lead

Orange Coast moved into a first-place tie in the Orange Empire Conference softball race with a 4-1 victory over Golden West Friday at Orange Coast.
Orange Coast (19-10, 11-3 in conference) is tied with Cypress (11-3), which lost to Riverside, 2-1, Friday night. Orange Coast travels to Cypress for a 3 p.m. game Monday.
Becky Elcock’s two-run double capped a four-run fifth for Orange Coast. Golden West had scored in the second on a run-scoring groundout by Tambra Strickland.
Kathy Shortall (7-2) pitched a four-hitter for her eighth complete game for OCC, which had beaten Golden West 10 consecutive times. Brandie Tantardini had three hits for Golden West (8-18, 2-12).

Fullerton 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Angie Guerrero pitched a six-hitter to lead Fullerton (22-9-1, 10-4).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Irvine Valley 3, Rancho Santiago 0--The Lasers (15-1, 14-1) clinched the conference title with a 15-3, 15-10, 15-11 victory. Irvine Valley will complete the regular season Wednesday at Golden West.
