Jean Forbath, founder of Share Our Selves charity, was surprised to learn she had taken top honors in an award program sponsored by a local pizza restaurant.
For her work providing food, clothing and medical care for the poor, she was named the winner of BJ’s Chicago Pizzeria’s Christmas Spirit Search, which recognizes people who spread the Christmas spirit 365 days a year.
“I never dreamed my work would be acknowledged in such an unusual way,” Forbath said.
Forbath, who was nominated by friend James Rasfeld, was chosen out of 200 candidates. Besides her work at Share Our Selves, she was recognized for organizing “Adopt a Family,” a program that helps the poor during the Christmas season.
Her prize includes a vacation for two to Chicago, complete with air fare, hotel accommodations and tickets to the “Taste of Chicago.”
