Irving threw a one-hitter and added a two-run homer as Bellflower defeated Norwalk High, 12-1. In the second game of the week with Norwalk, Irving knocked in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out single, and Bellflower went on to win, 5-4, in 11 innings. The victory put Bellflower in first place in the Suburban League.
Other top prep performers:
James Baker, a junior tennis player for La Mirada High, went 6-0 during the week. The victories helped La Mirada defeat Suburban League opponents Bellflower and Norwalk.
David Cameron, a Wilson High golfer, shot a par 51 over 14 holes at the Catalina Island Golf Course as the Bruins defeated Avalon, 276-307. He also shot a par 36 over nine holes at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach to lead Wilson to a 183-253 Moore League win over Jordan High.
