PERTH, Scotland — A silver dog collar given to a supporter by Scotland’s Bonnie Prince Charlie after his unsuccessful 1745 rebellion was sold for $66,044 at an auction in a Scottish castle.
The Italian greyhound’s collar, engraved with the royal arms of Scotland and an inscription from the young prince, was auctioned Tuesday at Fingask Castle in eastern Scotland.
Nearly all the items relating to attempts by the prince and his father to drive out the Hanoverian monarchy and put the Stuarts back on the throne sold for at least three times the pre-sale estimates. Most went to Scottish collectors.
