George Hincapie of Farmingdale, N.Y., was stripped of an apparent stage victory in the Tour DuPont bicycle race because of a finish-line infraction.
Hincapie, 19, emerged from a sprint to claim victory in the mountainous 113-mile race from Lynchburg, Va., to The Homestead in 4 hours 57 minutes 15 seconds.
The result was protested by Per Pedersen of Denmark and officials ruled that Hincapie had pushed off the Danish rider about 250 yards from the finish.
Raul Alcala of Mexico, who finished 18th, retained his 23-second margin over Lance Armstrong of Plano, Tex., with three stages of the 11-day race remaining.
