New Jobless Claims Stable: The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for jobless benefits was unchanged last week, the latest sign of what analysts called an aimless job market. The Labor Department said first-time applications for unemployment benefits totaled 340,000 during the week ended May 22, about what many economists had expected.
