Burlington Air Express, the big air and sea freight concern based in Irvine, has won an exclusive contract from General Motors Corp. to ship automotive parts between North America and Europe.
Burlington said that it expects to ship 75 million to 100 million pounds of freight a year for General Motors, but the Irvine company did not disclose the value of the contract nor its duration.
Burlington’s distribution centers in Europe and North America will handle all of the transportation needs for GM’s International Logistics unit, the auto maker’s parts shipment division.
The GM division said that Burlington’s experience was a factor in its selection as the division’s exclusive air and ocean carrier.
