Balboa Bay Wins Under-18 Volleyball Title

Paul Nihipali and Chris Pitzak, both former Esperanza players, helped the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club to the 18-and-under title of the Southern California Volleyball Assn. Boys’ Classic with a 15-11, 16-14 victory over Torrance on Sunday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Nihipali, who will attend UCLA, had 17 kills and Pitzak, who will attend Brigham Young, had 43 assists and six digs.

In the 16-and-under division final at Cal State Fullerton, Palisades beat Balboa Bay, 15-8, 16-14. In the 14-and-under final at Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club in Fountain Valley, the Outrigger Canoe Club of Honolulu beat Balboa, 15-10, 15-17, 15-12.
