1993 PREP PREVIEW: GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL : LAGUNA BEACH

Coach: Mike Soylular (third year).
1992: 13-1, 9-1 in Pacific Coast League; reached State Division I finals, losing to Corona del Mar in a five-game spikefest; reached Division I Southern Section championship, losing in three straight games to Sea Kings; defending league champion.
Key returners: Christy Collisson, Jr., 5-9, setter; Rose Kuhn, Jr., 5-9, outside hitter; Hilary Kyle, Sr., 5-6, outside hitter; Lisa Ravensberg, Jr., 6-0, middle blocker, Jennifer Tyus, Sr., 5-4, defensive specialist.
Key newcomers: Meghan Garner, Jr., 5-7, outside hitter; Mary Luhrs, Jr., 5-9, outside hitter; Keli Snip, Jr., 5-5, setter.
Outlook: Gone are outside hitter Rachel Wacholder, the co-MVP of the Southern Section who is playing at Colorado, middle blocker Anne Swayne, now at Oregon, and setter Erin Bratcher, who is at George Mason. Such losses would cripple most programs, but Soylular has a crop of returners, including section first-team pick Kyle, and newcomers--Garner was promoted from junior varsity last season during playoffs and Luhrs is a transfer from San Clemente--that should fill in the holes nicely.
