LA HABRA — Police Saturday arrested two men suspected of slaying a 56-year-old man during a gang-related shooting in July.
Tito Norberto-Martin Rios, 20, of Carlsbad, and Philip Jimenez, 18, of La Puente, were arrested in connection with the slaying of Joseph Aguilar Ruelaz in what police said was a gang-related drive-by shooting. A 16-year-old boy was wounded in the shooting.
Ruelaz was shot several times in the back and legs as he walked to a store on July 11. Police said Saturday they do not believe he was the intended target.
Detectives from the La Habra and Carlsbad police departments served a search warrant at a Carlsbad home Saturday morning and arrested Rios and Jimenez. Officers said they seized several items related to the shooting but did not elaborate.
