ANAHEIM — Friends and family of Carl N. Karcher plan to hold a rally today near Carl Karcher Enterprises’ corporate headquarters to hail the embattled founder for his accomplishments, an organizer said Wednesday.
Signs were posted in front of the building Wednesday and leaflets distributed across Anaheim to announce the 12:30 p.m. rally at a vacant lot--which is owned by Karcher--at 1200 N. Harbor Blvd. Organizer P.J. Behrbaum said Karcher, who was ousted Friday as chairman of the parent company of the Carl’s Jr. restaurant chain, is not expected to attend.
“It came about because we’ve had a number of calls from people saying, ‘How can we help? What can we do?’ ” said Behrbaum, a Karcher family friend. “It will show support for Carl for all the thousands of jobs he has (created) in Orange County.”
The only scheduled speakers are three longtime friends of Karcher: Stan Pawlowski, chairman of Corporate Bank in Anaheim; Bill Taormina, chairman of Taormina Industries Inc., and Jim Handsel, representing Yellow Cab of Northern Orange County in Anaheim. The rally is expected to last about half an hour.
