With drums rolling and Mickey Mouse wringing his hands in anticipation, Bonnie Delehoy was named Wednesday as the 1994 Disneyland Ambassador to the World.
Delehoy, 21, who operates rides in Fantasyland, was chosen from a pool of 125 applicants to the post of globe-trotting ambassador of goodwill for the Happiest Place on Earth.
Delehoy, a resident of Anaheim and a graduate of Golden West College, will be asked to escort visiting dignitaries to the theme park, as well as travel internationally with Mickey Mouse. In the next 12 months, she will appear on television and radio shows and visit terminally ill children in the hospital or at their homes, said Pam Espinosa, Disneyland publicist.
The title has been bestowed each year since 1964 on a Disneyland employee who “has the ability to communicate the Disney philosophy,” Espinosa said.
