Bulls Express Some Interest in Byron Scott

The Chicago Bulls’ search for scoring and backcourt help in the wake of the retirement of Michael Jordan may lead to Byron Scott.

Scott’s agent, Bob Woolf, said he has had conversations with Bull management about the 32-year-old free-agent guard. Interest in the former Laker apparently predated Jordan’s Wednesday announcement, although Chicago officials may have known such a decision was coming. What effect the retirement will have is not known, since the Bulls now have a much bigger slot to use in pursuit of a player.

The Portland Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics are also believed to be possibilities for Scott. Training camps open Friday.

Scott spent 10 seasons with the Lakers before a mutual parting of the ways this summer based on the team’s youth movement. He averaged 13.7 points and 28.9 minutes in 58 games, 53 of which were starts, during 1992-93.
