A 36-year-old man suspected of posing as a repairman and billing restaurants for work he never performed has been arrested, police said Wednesday.
Kevin Mayo of Costa Mesa was arrested Tuesday after a two-day investigation by police who were tipped off on Monday by a suspicious restaurant owner, said Irvine Police Lt. Al Muir.
“The restaurant owner told (Mayo) to return the next day and then called police,” Muir said, adding that Mayo was arrested when he returned to collect $80.
Mayo is being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail on suspicion of commercial burglary.
Police said Mayo would pose as a kitchen exhaust repairman using the business names of K&J; Fire Prevention or R&K; Fire Prevention.
Police said Mayo is a suspect in at least one other similar crime in Irvine and they are encouraging other possible victims to call police at (714) 724-7170.
