Relatives of Quincy Watts, an Olympic champion sprinter from Taft High in Woodland Hills, were the victims of robbery in Inglewood late Tuesday night that resulted in the loss of Watts’ two Olympic gold medals won in 1992.
According to a report by Inglewood police, two female relatives of Watts were confronted by three armed men in the garage of his grandparents’ home after returning from shopping at approximately 11 p.m. The women were then forced inside the house occupied by two of Watts’ male relatives, according to police.
“The robbers then searched the house for money and valuables,” officer Wayne Miles said. “When they found what they wanted, including two of Quincy Watts’ Olympic gold medals, they left in the family car.”
The car was recovered Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.
Watts, 23, who lives in Calabasas with his father Rufus, could not be reached for comment Wednesday. However, Lon Rosen, his agent who talked with Watts Wednesday, said that the sprinter was more concerned with the well-being of his family members than with the loss of the gold medals. “His attitude was, ‘As long a everyone is OK, that’s my main concern right now,’ ” Rosen said.
