BURBANK : Council to Consider Donation to Schools
- Share via
The Burbank City Council is scheduled to vote tonight on whether to spend $23 million to help rebuild the Burbank public schools.
The Burbank Unified School District needs the money to complete a $138-million formula to rebuild the schools.
The district hopes to raise $100 million from a bond issue, to be voted on in April, and state funds. If the state comes through with $15 million, that leaves $23 million missing.
The school board and City Council had met in a special joint session last week to discuss the city’s donation. If approved, the funding would come from redevelopment money, anticipated city land-sale proceeds and Community Development Block Grant Funds.
A group consisting of two members each from the City Council and the Board of Education has been meeting during the past six months to examine ways the city might help the schools.
