Christian Science Group Sues Leaders Over Debt

BOSTON — A group of Christian Science Church members has sued church leaders, accusing them of mismanaging funds and leaving the church $83 million in debt.
The group alleges that church directors and trustees attempted to conceal the church’s deteriorating financial condition after spending about $450 million on a cable television channel and other projects.
The group sued 14 current and former church directors and trustees of the Christian Science Publishing Society. The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court, seeks to enforce church bylaws calling for financial oversight of the sect’s top officers. The church itself was not named as a defendant.
