Agencies Too Choosy About Volunteers
* I strongly disagree with Sandy Doerschlag’s article about the need for volunteers at nonprofit agencies in the San Fernando Valley (Valley Commentary, Dec. 26).
I am a high school junior who has been looking for a volunteer job to fulfill a California Scholarship Federation requirement. I was willing to do anything. I was not looking for a glamorous job. Everyone I called turned me down because they wanted a long-term commitment.
It seems to me that the agencies and hospitals would want people regardless of how much time is given. I finally got a job after my grandmother, who is a volunteer, begged her boss for a volunteer job for me.
