GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Osegura’s 37 Lead the Way for Mater Dei

Leticia Osegura, a senior forward, scored a career-high 37 points as Mater Dei, the fourth-ranked team in Orange County, beat ninth-ranked San Clemente, 85-57, in a South Coast League girls’ basketball game Tuesday at Mater Dei.
Melody Peterson added 12 points for Mater Dei (12-2, 2-0 in league). Mater Dei led, 38-33, at the half but outscored San Clemente 47-24 in the second half, including 26-11 in the final quarter.
San Clemente (11-4, 1-1) was led by Michelle Macintyre with 22 points.
In other South Coast League games:
Capistrano Valley 53, Mission Viejo 36--Susan Scott and Jennifer Garrett each scored 16 points to lead visiting Capistrano Valley (2-0 in league).
Dana Hills 58, El Toro 41--Karun Grossman scored 27 points, Sandy Noyes added 11 points and Nicolle Zuniga had 10 points and eight steals for host Dana Hills (11-4, 1-1).
In the Century League:
El Modena 59, Santa Ana Valley 42--Jamie Shine had 21 points and 15 rebounds and Norah Mariner added 18 points and 12 rebounds for host El Modena (5-8, 1-1).
Villa Park 73, Foothill 46--Michelle Jacquot had 18 points and Michelle Miyake and Mary Jo Pennington each added 15 for Villa Park (14-2, 2-0).
Canyon 53, Orange 33--Robin Kuhlman scored 14 points and Sarah Spjut scored 10 for Canyon (9-6, 2-0).
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 73, Loara 32--Shanna Renken scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds, and Jamie Nebeker and Michelle de Bruijn each scored 13 to lift El Dorado (12-4, 2-0).
Cypress 60, Esperanza 42--Susan Flaming scored 20 points, all in the first half, for host Cypress (16-2, 2-0 in league). She was nine of 12 from the field.
Katella 37, Los Alamitos 34--Stephanie Toon had 14 points and nine rebounds and Khaliha Fountaine added eight points for visiting Katella (7-7, 1-1).
In the Freeway League:
Troy 67, Sonora 43--Jennie Gadd had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Audra Gamst had 12 points and Dinah Shah 10 to lead visiting Troy (10-5, 2-0).
Fullerton 41, La Habra 35--Jacinda James had 15 points and Nadia Hoerner added 13 for Fullerton (9-6, 2-0).
Sunny Hills 35, Buena Park 34--Megumi Takasaki had 14 points and nine rebounds and Randi Kameoka scored 11 points to lead host Sunny Hills (3-9, 1-1).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 101, Anaheim 19--Kiyoko Miller had 24 points and five steals, Nicole Erickson had 20 points, nine assists and six steals for host Brea-Olinda (14-0, 2-0), the top-ranked team in the county.
Valencia 54, Western 42--Jamie Snavely scored 19 points and LaQuinta Alexander added 14 for Valencia (5-7, 2-0).
Magnolia 47, Savanna 32--Whitney Torregano scored 16 points to lead visiting Magnolia.
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 66, Capistrano Valley Christian 47--Alana Kempton scored 27 points, including making 16 of 19 free throws, to lead Whittier Christian (7-6, 2-2).
Orange Lutheran 64, Brethren Christian 36--Kristin Weddick and Lori Wright each scored 12 points to lead host Orange Lutheran (7-7, 1-2).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 69, Laguna Beach 34--Dyanna Hatch scored a game-high 25 points, including five three-pointers, to lead host Trabuco Hills (8-9, 2-0).
Estancia 46, Laguna Hills 25--Cyndi Richards scored 14 points and Laura Czingula had 10 points and nine rebounds for Estancia (12-2, 1-1).
In the Academy League:
Connelly 43, Cal Lutheran 34--Kristen Cappel had six of her game-high 18 points in the decisive third quarter for host Connelly (2-8, 1-0). Connelly led, 15-14, at the half, but outscored Cal Lutheran, 17-10, in the third quarter.
