TORRANCE : Library Books May Be Renewed by Phone
- Share via
For the first time, Torrance Library patrons may renew books by telephone.
Patrons may call the library on a touch-tone phone and use a new automated computer system to find a book’s due day, renew it and determine if any overdue fines are owed.
The library expects hundreds of calls a week, said Norm Reeder, library programs administrator.
The system, which serves the city’s six libraries, was funded with a $20,000 donation from the nonprofit Friends of the Library.
In several months, the system will call patrons automatically when materials are overdue or requested books have arrived.
Such calls will save the library about $6,500 a year in mailing costs, Reeder said.
The number to renew books is (310) 618-2785 or 2786.
