SOUTH EL MONTE: Mayor Raul Pardo has dismissed as a lie an anonymous mailer sent to residents that accused the city of backing a plan for a card club. Pardo said the mailer falsely accused the City Council of approving a card club and offering a $16-million loan to help build it. Council members said they had never considered such a project and voters would have to decide if it did.
