SANTA ANA : Project SABADO Will Hold Forum

A group that focuses on social problems stemming from alcohol and illegal drug use will hold a community forum today to organize new grass-roots programs.
Project SABADO, which stands for Santa Ana Broad-based Alcohol and Drug Organization, has scheduled the forum for 7:30 p.m. at Madison Elementary School, 1124 E. Hobart St.
Group leaders will ask participants to suggest programs or strategies to combat the problems of substance use. The results of a local public opinion survey in September will be presented to help define the problems.
The 400 respondents to the SABADO survey listed drunk driving, alcohol-spurred domestic violence and illicit drug sales among the most serious social ills in Santa Ana.
SABADO, created last March, is a $150,000-a-year program funded by the Orange County Health Care Agency. The project is headed by a 10-member committee that includes residents, local activists, teachers and police.
