WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : USC’s Leslie Scores 29 Points in Victory Over Arizona State

Lisa Leslie scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead ninth-ranked USC to an 87-81 victory over Arizona State on Saturday night at Tempe, Ariz.
The Trojans, 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the Pacific 10 Conference, used a 21-6 second-half run to build an 80-65 lead with 6:35 to play.
Freshman Tina Thompson scored nine of her 21 points during the run. Karleen Shields had a career-high 13 points and added five steals off the bench for USC, which was playing without point guard Nicky McCrimmon because of a family emergency.
Nikki Thompson had 28 points and 21 rebounds for Arizona State (2-1, 0-5).
Arizona 83, UCLA 78--The Bruins had a seven-point lead with five minutes to play, but the Wildcats used a 20-8 run to rally at Tucson.
The victory was the first over UCLA in eight tries for Arizona (9-4, 3-2), which got 19 points from Kim Conway and 18 from Shawn Coder. The Bruins (8-7, 3-3) were led by Natalie Williams with 29 points.
