Of Canals, Cruises and Countryside

To cruise the Erie Canal at 10 m.p.h. is to see New York in a whole new light. The inland waterway stretches through some of central New York’s prettiest countryside and is part of the 524-mile New York State Canal System. Rent a fully equipped canal boat and chart your own course for a week or take a two-hour cruise. Bike or hike along a towpath. Visit one of the parks, restaurants, inns, museums or historic sites that line the banks or are close by. It’s all described in a new, free brochure that will “Unlock the Legend” of the canals. To obtain a copy, write: New York State Canal Corp., P.O. Box 189, Albany, N.Y. 12201.
