The Ventura County Crime Stoppers program is offering two rewards of up to $1,000 each for information that helps apprehend thieves in a rash of car burglaries and a bird heist at a pet store.
Since Jan. 1, five cars have been broken into and looted at night in the Campus Park area of Moorpark, police said.
Items stolen include cellular phones, jewelry, stereo equipment and a purse, police said. A resident said he chased off a Latino male with close-cropped hair during one incident, police said.
In the second case, burglars pried open the door of Furs N Feathers Pet Store in Thousand Oaks on Jan. 15, police said. The burglars got away with three parrots and a cage worth a total of $1,750, police said.
Two of the parrots were green with gold chest feathers, police said. One of them can say “pretty bird” and “meow.” The other green bird does not talk.
The third parrot, an African gray, says “hi, Zack,” “hello” and cries “ouch” when he falls down, police said. This bird bites any woman who tries to pick it up. Also taken was a 4 1/2-foot wrought-iron cage, police said.
Anyone with information should call 494-TALK. Callers may remain anonymous, police said.
