SAN JOSE — Cal State Fullerton’s basketball team finally got the close game it wanted Saturday night against San Jose State, but the Titans came up short.
A 15-foot jumper by Fullerton’s James French bounced off the rim with five seconds left, and the Spartans held on for an 84-82 Big West Conference victory at the Event Center.
The Titans, who had lost their previous two games by 22 points to Long Beach State and by 31 points to Pacific, are 4-15 overall and 2-9 in the Big West.
San Jose (11-8, 7-4) swept both regular-season games from Fullerton for the first time since 1981. The Spartans beat the Titans, 69-63, two weeks ago.
