It’s not too late to prepare for the inevitable Next One, and Leach provides clear, easy-to-follow instructions and diagrams on how to secure furniture, appliances and bric-a-brac. (He even includes a diagram of the gas valve that’s invariably mentioned in earthquake safety literature.) One problem he fails to address: How to fit all the stuff an emergency kit is supposed to contain in the average car.
