SOUTHERN SECTION BOYS’ BASKETBALL : Bastani Leads the Way for Corona del Mar

Ramin Bastani scored 15 points to lead Corona del Mar to a 54-24 victory over El Segundo in a Southern Section IV-AA playoff game Tuesday at Estancia High.

Dan MacMillan added 12 for the Sea Kings, the divisional defending champions. Corona del Mar (14-13) plays Twentynine Palms in the second round Friday night.

In Division V-A:

Liberty Christian 65, Long Beach Gethsemane Baptist 30--Bob McClung had 21 points, six assists and five steals and David Vaccaro had 18 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots for host Liberty Christian (13-11). The Minutemen face Pacific Shores Friday.

Pacific Shores 55, Heritage Christian 50--Danny Chapple had 16 points and Josh Kalb had 14 for Pacific Shores (10-7).

In Division IV-A wild-card games:

Sierra Madre Maranatha 65, Calvary Chapel 63--Maranatha’s Jose Chavez hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for Maranatha.

St. Monica 49, Brethren Christian 48--Richard Mendoza had 16 points and six assists and Andy Brown had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Brethren Christian (16-10).
