PREP BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Lynwood Sees Too Much of Alhambra’s Contreras

Center Mike Contreras scored 23 points and had 22 rebounds to lead Alhambra to a 43-41 overtime upset of 19th-ranked Lynwood in a Division I-AA first-round playoff game Tuesday at Alhambra.
Contreras scored all nine overtime points for the Moors, who improved to 15-10 and will play Ayala (21-4) in a second-round game on Friday.
Lynwood (17-9) finished the regular season in third place in the San Gabriel Valley League to advance to the playoffs. The Moors finished in second place in the Almont League.
No. 1 Santa Ana Mater Dei 94, Irvine 45--Schea Cotton scored 30 points to lead the Monarchs (27-0) to a Division I-A first-round victory over the Vaqueros (13-13) at Santa Ana.
No. 10 Long Beach Poly 78, Diamond Bar 60--Damion Dawson scored 19 points and James Brown scored 18 to lead the Jackrabbits (21-6) over the Brahmas (10-14) in a Division I-AA game at Long Beach.
No. 14 Loyola 81, Rowland 70--Toby Bailey scored 38 points to lead Loyola (20-5) to a Division I-A game at home over Rowland (13-11).
No. 18 Santa Ana Valley 84, Fontana A.B. Miller 45--Olujimi Mann scored 27 points to lead the Falcons (23-3) to a Division I-AA victory over A.B. Miller (10-14) at Santa Ana.
In other games: Michael Batiste scored 20 points to lead Long Beach Wilson (20-7) to a 60-49 Division I-AA first-round victory over Leuzinger (11-12) at home. . . . Andrew Klein scored 21 points to lead Peninsula (21-6) to a 72-56 Division I-AA first round victory over Montebello (14-11).
