Hazelton Isn’t Ready to Accept Burbank Offer

BURBANK — Burbank Unified School District’s Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of John Hazelton as football coach at Burbank High on Thursday night, ending more than two weeks of speculation.
However, Hazelton, who has a year of head coaching experience at Banning High and has served two stints as an assistant at Montclair Prep, said he is not ready to accept the position.
Hazelton said he wants to consult with Montclair Prep Principal Vernon Simpson before he makes the decision.
But Hazelton brought two prospective assistant coaches with him to a meeting of the board--Moorpark High and former Cal State Northridge assistant Jim Clausen and Montclair Prep assistant John Greaves.
The board, minus its fifth member, Denise Wilcox, met in closed session before announcing its decision.
