SHORE REMEMBERED: Golfers at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo mourned the death of fellow member Dinah Shore, who filmed a television program at the club just a few months ago and sang there after a tournament last year (A1). . . “She put on a great show,” said club member Pat Stimming, 81, a former actress who appeared with Shore in several movies in the 1940s. “I played with her a lot, she was a darling.”. . . John Fiedler, the club’s head pro, said Shore, who had a home in Malibu, joined Las Posas in 1981 and played there when her busy schedule allowed.

NO MORE BARKING: An Oxnard woman ordered to have her dog’s vocal cords cut to stop it from barking is suing Ventura County and Oxnard police (B1). . . . But when it comes to making yapping dogs quiet down, de-barking should be a last resort, some animal workers and health officials said. . . . Talk to the animal, bring it indoors and consult your veterinarian or an animal trainer. . . . “Some dogs just like the sound of their bark,” said Jolene Hoffman of the Humane Society for Ventura County.

SOARING EAGLES: The Oak Park High School Eagles are flying high after winning in the first round of the Southern Section Division IV-A basketball playoffs (C14). . . . Credit for the Eagles’ 22-2 record goes to the players’ teamwork, a surging interest in youth basketball in Oak Park--and Coach Rob Hall, an assistant at Santa Paula High before he was recruited by the Eagles. . . . “They’ve worked very, very hard,” Hall said.

QUAKE FEVER: Cases of Valley fever in Ventura County may be on the rise since the Jan. 17 earthquake (B1). . . . And some doctors say they are seeing patients with other ill effects from the quake including colds and flu, possibly brought on by quake-related stress. . . . “It’s hard to make a direct connection,” said George Yu of the American Lung Assn. of Ventura County, a pulmonary specialist in Camarillo. “But we’re seeing people who say they started getting sick in the middle of January.”
