Sunny Hills
Coach: Steve White (24th year).
1993: 22-0, 10-0 in the Freeway League; won Southern Section Division II title, losing only one set in the first three rounds before beating North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, 11-7, in the finals.
Key returners: Hiran Bhavsar, Sr., will play with Joey Springer, Sr., at No. 1 doubles; Joseph Gilbert, So., No. 4-ranked 16-year old in Southland will play No. 2 singles; Jeff Hartel, Jr., will play No. 2 doubles; Kevin Kim, So., No. 1-ranked 16-year-old in Southern California, will play No. 1 singles; Juno Kwan, Sr., will play singles or doubles.
Key newcomers: John Han, So., a transfer from the Huntington Beach area, ranked 18th in Southern California boys’ 16 will probably play No. 3 singles; Shawn Harris, So., will play doubles.
Outlook: White said he’ll miss the leadership of Dave Robbins and Jason Nevadomsky, but you probably won’t find many coaches feeling sorry for him. Kim, Gilbert and Han match up against any team in the Southern Section--even Diamond Bar, Newport Harbor and Peninsula, who coincidentally play the Lancers early.
