Just A Thought, a new retail business at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, sells gift baskets through an outdoor cart at the shopping mall.
Just A Thought is more than a business, however. It was created with the help of a grant from the Department of Rehabilitation and the Alternative Training & Learning Center, a nonprofit agency that helps people with disabilities and internal head injuries.
Just A Thought provides an “integrated work environment” for both disabled and non-disabled people, according to Wendy Garrison, manager of Fashion Island’s specialty retail programs. “It teaches them, step by step, how to become self-sufficient and active within the business community.”
