UCI Spanish Dept. Names New Chair

IRVINE — Juan Bruce-Novoa, professor of Spanish, has been appointed chairman of the department of Spanish and Portuguese at UC Irvine.
Bruce-Novoa, who joined the UCI faculty in 1989, is the author of several books and more than 100 scholarly papers regarding Mexican and Latino literatures and cultures. His books include “Chicano Poetry: A Response to Chaos,” and “Chicano Authors, Inquiry by Interview.”
A past Fulbright scholar and Rockefeller Foundation fellow, Bruce-Novoa received his doctorate from the University of Colorado and taught at Yale University, UC Santa Barbara and Trinity University before coming to UCI.
