FOUNTAIN VALLEY : 8th-Grader Expelled for Bringing Knife

An eighth-grade student who brought a Swiss army knife to school has been expelled by the Fountain Valley School District Board of Trustees.
The unnamed student was expelled Thursday. The decision was announced at a school board meeting by Board of Trustees President Robert Sedlak.
The school district has a “zero-tolerance” policy, under which any student who brings a weapon--including any type of knife--to school faces expulsion.
“Our policy is pretty clear: You bring a knife, you’re expelled,” said Trustee Larry Crandall.
The boy, whose name was withheld because of his age, brought the knife to an unidentified school on a key chain, district officials said. No further information on the incident was available.
Sedlak said boy did not use the knife in a threatening way toward any student. He said the boy can apply next month to be allowed back into a district school.
The expulsion is the fifth this school year attributed to a student bringing a weapon onto a campus, Sedlak said.
