Behind the Scenes : For Best Support of Charities, the Spotlight Is on Winning Combinations

Academy Awards fever heated up Orange County on Monday as supporters gathered to help their favorite charities.
The 450 people who attended a party for the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa received the red carpet treatment at Atrium Court in Fashion Island Newport Beach, while 300 people glammed it up at Planet Hollywood in Santa Ana to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Imitating the glitterati of Hollywood, star-studded locals dressed to pop the klieg lights.
At the Assistance League’s “Night of the Stars,” women wore a range as wide as a 70-millimeter big screen: from two-piece silk pantsuits and short skirts to cocktail suits and formal gowns. Men added distinction to their traditional black tuxes with colorful cummerbunds and shirts.
At the Cystic Fibrosis “Evening With Oscar,” guests donned hip chic. Armani and Versace captured the award for tuxedos with a twist (tieless tuxes in green, fuchsia and purple caught the spotlight). Women spent the evening in sequins, look-at-me hats and flashy jewelry raided from their safe-deposit boxes.
