Mater Dei, Sr.
Baseball / Pitcher
In the Monarchs’ final game of the Upper Deck tournament this month, Harris pitched a one-hitter in a victory over Lafayette (Ky.). In his next start, last Friday, he pitched a no-hitter in an 11-0 victory over San Clemente. “When he has his breaking ball working, it makes his fastball seem faster and he can be pretty unhittable,” Mater Dei Coach Bob Ickes said. Harris (5-0) struck out four Tritons and allowed only one runner, on a first-inning walk. The runner was thrown out trying to steal, so Harris faced the minimum.
Other notables:
* Derya Buyukuncu, Woodbridge, won the 50 free in 20.82 seconds and the 100 (45.44) as the Warriors won the Orange County Swim Championships.
* Ryan Mariano, El Toro, had 30 kills in the No. 1 Chargers’ five-game victory over No. 4 San Clemente.
* Franco Trani and Marco Materazzi, Los Alamitos, won all their doubles sets in the Griffins’ 11-10 and 12 1/3-8 2/3 victories over Loara.
* Tiger Woods, Western, was seven-under-par in two Orange League victories, 203-206 over Valencia and 181-234 over Savanna.
