HUNTINGTON BEACH — Tom McCluskey, who has been an assistant at Saddleback the last two seasons, has been selected to be the men’s basketball coach at Golden West, Albert Gasparian, Golden West athletic director, said Monday.
McCluskey will work in a walk-on position. He replaces Jim Greenfield, who had coached the men’s program for the last 16 years. Greenfield requested at least two seasons off for personal reasons.
This will be the first time in 25 seasons that Greenfield hasn’t been head coach of a basketball team.
McCluskey, 32, played at Saddleback College and Penn State. He coached at Fontana High School for three seasons, then five seasons at Tustin High School. His Tustin teams had a record of 109-40 and won a State title.
“I feel it’s a great opportunity,” McCluskey said. “I hope I can take advantage of it. I’m excited to get it going.”
