VILLA PARK — Sixth-ranked Villa Park relied on its doubles teams in a 13-8 victory over No. 9 Canyon in a Century League boys’ tennis match Tuesday at Villa Park High.
“Doubles are our weakness,” Villa Park Coach Dave Colville said before the match. “We should win our singles 9-0, so we need a few wins from our doubles.”
The Spartans got three, two from their No. 3 team of Brandon Louie and Julien Laussade, who won, 6-4, 6-4, to give Villa Park (11-2, 4-1 in league) an 8 2/3-5 1/3 lead at the end of Round 2. The other victory came from Bryan Kim and Eric Wu, 7-6 (7-1).
Villa Park is in second place in the league behind fifth-ranked Foothill. Canyon (11-3, 2-3) drops to fourth behind Orange.
