BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Fremont Wins, 7-3, on Monterrosa Triple

Fremont 7, South Gate 3--Designated hitter Rinaldo Monterrosa’s two-out three-run triple in the bottom of the fifth was the difference in the Pathfinders’ Southeastern Conference upset victory Thursday at home. Monterrosa went two-for-two with one walk and three RBIs in the game. South Gate pitcher Rick Alcantar went three-for-three with one RBI and scored two of the Rams’ three runs.
Bell 9, Jefferson 3--Catcher Jose Lopez went three-for-three with two RBIs in a Southeastern Conference game Thursday at Bell, for the Eagles’ 10th consecutive win. Lopez also threw out three Jefferson runners trying to steal second. First baseman Val Beltran was two-for-three with two RBIs for Bell.
Manual Arts 5, Los Angeles 3--Manual Arts pitcher Jesus Rosales tossed a three-hitter and struck out six batters Wednesday at Harvard Park as the Toilers remained undefeated in Metro League play.
Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when left fielder Roger Valle scored on a single by catcher George Guzman. But Manual Arts pulled ahead 3-1 when catcher Louie Gallarde hit a two-run triple and then scored on a passed ball.
The Toilers padded their lead in the third when Gallardo walked, advanced to third on consecutive passed balls and scored on a fielder’s choice. The Romans closed the gap, 4-3, in the sixth on Archie Underwood’s two-run homer.
Manual Arts added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by right fielder Mario Arambula.
