GOINGS ON : Stars’ Tribute for Comedian to Benefit Lobero Theatre Project : Salute to comic great Jonathan Winters in Santa Barbara will help launch the second phase of the facility’s preservation project.

It’s another busy week in Santa Barbara County. And while it’s tough to pick a highlight, it’s a sure bet that the biggest cluster of stars will be out to honor comic great Jonathan Winters Sunday at Montecito’s Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel.

Rod Steiger, John Ritter, Bea Arthur, producer George Schlatter and announcer Gary Owens of “Laugh In” will be on hand, and there will be a video tribute featuring Carol Burnett, Roddy McDowell, Don Knotts, Cliff Robertson, Fess Parker and others who have worked with Winters.

Tickets range from $125-$5,000--yes, $5,000--with proceeds helping to launch the second phase of the Lobero Theatre’s Preservation Project. All admission prices include cocktails, dinner and the tribute, beginning at 6 p.m. Call 963-0761 for reservations. The Biltmore is at 1260 Channel Drive.

Four candidates for the master of fine arts degree from UC Santa Barbara’s arts studio department will present their thesis exhibitions today through May 22 at the University Art Museum. An artists’ reception will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the museum. The artists are Enrique Martinez Celaya (paintings), Lance Morrison (drawings and paintings), Wallace Schultz (video, photography and computer graphics) and Lucie Zivny (paintings). Museum hours are Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Call 893-2951.

Santa Barbara’s Bach Camerata will conclude its inaugural chamber music series tonight with a concert at the Music Academy of the West in Montecito, beginning at 8 p.m. The program will include works by Beethoven, Strauss and Saint-Saens. The Gilbert and Sullivan Company of Santa Barbara will offer a quick look at the work of its namesakes, with a staging of “The Sorcerer” Friday through Sunday at Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theatre. The musical--performed at the Lobero in 1886 and again in 1986--is the story of a magician hired to administer a love potion to a whole village. After taking the potion, the recipients fall asleep, and upon waking fall in love with the first person they meet. Show time is 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. The third annual Santa Barbara Wine Auction will kick off tonight with the Downtown Wine and Gallery Walk, covering a 13-block section of downtown Santa Barbara. From 5:30 to 10 p.m. guests can visit some of the local establishments for wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $8. Call 962-2098 for specific locations.

As for the remainder of the four-day celebration, there will be auctions, tastings and dinners in private homes. Call 965-WINE for specifics. The culminating event will be a Grand Wine Tasting Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Covarrubias Adobe, 715 State St. Wines from more than 50 West Coast wineries and food from local restaurants will be available for sampling. The Santa Barbara Symphony will close out its concert season with the help of the Santa Barbara Choral Society, and guest conductor Murry Sidlin Saturday and Sunday at the Arlington Theatre. The program will include Handel’s “Concerto grosso,” Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” featuring soprano soloist Sylvia Wen.
