* Today’s schedule: The section’s 15 best teams will tee off at 8 a.m. at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs.
* Defending champion: Palm Desert.
* Outlook: Although Palm Desert’s 56-dual match winning streak was broken by Santa Barbara San Marcos this season, the two-time defending champion Aztecs are again the favorites. They won the Eastern Regional by two strokes over Palm Springs, despite playing poorly, according to Coach Tim Kabeary. The Aztecs won their first title in 1992 on this course. Westlake, which finished fourth last season and returns with largely the same team, won the Northern Regional by two shots over San Marcos. Loyola and Newhall Hart tied for first in the Western Regional. La Verne Damien won the Central Regional by two shots over Long Beach Millikan, and Dana Hills won the Southern Regional by three over Huntington Beach.
