‘Sleepless in Seattle’
Writer-director Nora Ephron’s terrifically popular 1993 release is a real charmer, a romantic comedy about an ultimate long-distance relationship. The “Sleepless” lovers--Tom Hanks as Sam, an insomniac Seattle widower-architect, and Meg Ryan as Annie, a Baltimore journalist--not only live in different cities on different coasts, they don’t even know each other. They connect through a national call-in radio show. Ephron’s quick-quip take on talk-radio make her film contemporary, but she also returns us to the great days of the American romantic comedy. With Ross Malinger as Sam’s tug-at-our-hearts son, Jonah. (Showtime Sunday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at noon and 8 p.m.)
