How About a Little Old-Time Baseball?
What a travesty! The Angels’ “old-timers’ game” has been transformed to a second-rate company-picnic exhibition. I attended the June 26 game expecting to see the traditional semi-serious demonstration of the skills of some of baseball’s legends, only to find:
1) Lineups that were primarily filled with non-athlete entertainers and media hacks, and 2) the few ex-major leaguers who were in attendance were reduced to playing softball in all its slow-pitch, underhanded, 12-inch mushball glory. The sight of Vida Blue and Ken Brett throwing 20-m.p.h. bananas while Dave Kingman and Reggie Jackson swing for the fences was pitiful.
