2 Men Held for Having Pipe Bomb

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies thought they were involved in a routine traffic stop early Sunday when they pulled over a 1982 Datsun pickup truck in Agoura Hills for allegedly running a stop sign and failing to yield.
What they found in the cab of the truck, however, was anything but routine: a pipe bomb.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Britta Tubbs said deputies discovered the bomb about 2:30 a.m. after they stopped the pickup on the westbound Ventura Freeway, west of Reyes Adobe Road.
The sheriff’s bomb squad was called, and arson-explosive technicians moved the bomb to a remote area, where it was later detonated.
The driver of the pickup, John Pellegrino, 25, of Newbury Park and a passenger, Scott Serva, 24, of Simi Valley were booked on suspicion of possession of an explosive device. They are being held in lieu of $500,000 bail each.
Tubbs said it was not immediately known whether the men gave an explanation for allegedly possessing the bomb.
