Bicycle Lockers to Be Installed at Metrolink
- Share via
Hoping to encourage Ventura County Metrolink commuters to ride bicycles instead of driving to the train station, a local agency is going to install storage lockers at stops throughout the county.
The Ventura County Transportation Commission has received an $80,000 federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant to buy the lockers. Caltrans has agreed to pay an additional $20,000 for administrative costs.
In the coming months, a total of at least 40 heavy-duty fiberglass lockers will be installed at the Metrolink stations in Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo and Oxnard, as well as at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
Users must supply their own locks and will have free access to lockers on a first-come, first-served basis.
Before selecting the lockers, commission staffers surveyed other cities with similar programs, including Santa Clarita, Riverside, Sacramento, Portland, Ore., and Spokane, Wash., to find the best equipment and program.
