Darren Angel of Northridge continued his scintillating summer by firing a three-under-par 69 Tuesday during the first round of stroke play at the 47th U.S. Junior Amateur championship at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, N.J.
Angel, a senior at Granada Hills High, trails leader Marion Moore of Orangeburg, S.C., by one shot. They were the only two players in the 156-man field to break 70 on the 6,704-yard course.
Brandon DiTullio of Thousand Oaks, a senior at Westlake High, shot 72 and is locked in an eight-way tie for 13th place.
The championship resumes today with the final round of stroke play. The low 64 players then advance to match play, which begins Thursday.
