A Pacoima man was sentenced to 585 days in jail for his third drunk-driving conviction, Los Angeles city attorney officials said.
San Fernando Municipal Court Judge L. Jeffrey Wiatt handed down the sentence to Vincente Jara, 39, on Monday. Jara was found guilty of drunk driving and driving with a suspended license after only 40 minutes of deliberation by jurors.
Upon completion of his sentence, Jara will also be placed on five years probation, during which he will attend 300 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and an 18-month alcohol education program, according to Deputy City Atty. Victor Kalustian, who handled the case.
Wiatt also suspended Jara’s driver license for three additional years.
Jara was arrested following a traffic accident May 8 at Paxton Street and Bradley Avenue in Pacoima. Tests revealed Jara had a blood-alcohol level of .20, well above California’s legal limit of .08.
